How to Create a Website from Scratch

This post will teach you how to create a WordPress website from scratch. A step by step tutorial video is included at the end. You won’t need any prior experience :)

To create a website you need to do 3 main things:

  1. Register a domain name
  2. Set up hosting
  3. Install WordPress

Register a Domain Name

A domain name is just an address we use to get to a certain website. For example, www.amazon.com is the domain name to get to Amazon’s website. To register a domain name you just need to find an available domain and purchase it through a domain registar (costs about 10 bucks a year). NameCheap is where I get all of my domain names. If you want more information on the subject, check out my post on how to register a domain name.

Set Up Hosting

When I upload a picture to Facebook, that picture is stored on Facebook’s computers. These storage computers are called servers. Every website has content on it such as text, pictures, or videos. This content also needs to be stored on servers. Lucky for us, we don’t have a to buy and set up a server for our website, we can just rent a space on someone else’s servers. So hosting is just when someone else hosts our website’s content on their servers. Hosting usually costs around $10 a month.

HostGator is what I use for hosting. They’re cheap and easy to use. They’ve also hooked us up with some coupons.

Coupon Code: buildwithoutcode1

Use if you’re want to pay month to month and you’ll get the first month for $0.01.

Coupon Code: buildwithoutcode

Use if you choose to pay for more than one month in advance and you’ll get 25% off your first pay period.

Install WordPress

WordPress is what you’re going to use to build and customize your website without writing code. On the home page I explain why WordPress is a great way to build websites.

To get your website up and running with WordPress, you first need to point your domain to your web host. Then with HostGator it’s just a 1-click WordPress installation. After that you’ll have your site live on the internet and you can start customizing it through WordPress.

The tutorial below walks through the entire process of creating a website, from registering a domain to installing WordPress.

I’ve been browsing on-line a lot more than 3 hours today, but I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty price sufficient in my opinion. In my view, if all web owners and bloggers made good content while you did, the net could possibly be a many more helpful than in the past. I was able to set up my website .
